Why ‘The Square Mile’?
Historically, the Square Mile has had several meanings. Perhaps the most famous meaning referred to London; the old city encompassed approximately one square mile of land.
So, what does an Australian game production company have to do with the old city of London? Quite frankly, nothing. For us, The Square Mile derives its meaning from an entirely different backstory. Our Square Mile refers to an old concept, the ‘Square Mile of Violence’: an area (one perfect square mile, in fact) in which anything goes- consider it like the Purge, but 70 years earlier.
In a way, this Square Mile represents the combination of a philosophical treatise commenting on humanities duplicity and a millennium old turn of phrase.
We’re an accommodating crowd so we dropped the violence; our Square Mile isn’t just about trivial, base impulses: rather, the Square Mile studio is about creating products that will thrill (or maybe even offend) while venting and challenging our primal motivations.
